Sociology-Anthropology Department and Manila Observatory: Partners in a 5-year IDRC- Managed Climate Change Research Program

Dr. Emma Porio, chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, School of Social Sciences and Ms. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, executive director of the Manila Observatory presented papers in the conference “Cities at Risk: Building Adaptive Capacities for Managing Climate Change Risks in Asian Coastal Cities” in Academia Sinica, Taipei last April 11-13, 2011.
In Academia Sinica, they also attended the first research group meeting of “Coastal Cities at Risk: Building Adapative Capacity for Managing Climate Change in Coastal Mega-Cities”, which is part of a five-year research program managed by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) on“International Research Initiative on Adaptation to Climate Change”, a program designed to support vulnerable populations adapt to climate change. Manila Observatory (MO) will coordinate the research activities with partners in Vancouver, Bangkok and Lagos while Ateneo de Manila (Socio-Anthro, Physics, and Environmental Science) serves as the academic institution for graduate student training on climate change adaptation in the Philippines.
